McKinney-Vento Tuition Waiver

WHAT IS THE WAIVER
In accordance with the Florida Board of Governors Regulation 8.014, the University will waive tuition and certain fees for any student who does not have a fixed, regular, and adequate place to sleep at night (not including university housing). This includes students whose main nighttime residence is a temporary shelter or a place not intended to be used as a regular sleeping space for people.
WHO QUALIFIES
Any student who does not have a fixed, regular, and adequate place to sleep at night (not including university housing).
("Adequate" means the space is safe, private, and has basic utilities like water, electricity, and heat.)
- You’re staying somewhere not meant for living, like a car, a park, or an abandoned building.
- You’re living with others temporarily because you lost your housing or can’t afford your own.
- You’re residing in a shelter, hotel, motel, trailer, or unsafe housing.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Students seeking the waiver must submit documentation (e.g., documentation from a federal/state agency, the McKinney-Vento Homeless Act letter, a letter from a Homeless Shelter, a Case Manager, etc.). Documentation must be on official letterhead and include contact information and service start/end dates. Submitted documents become part of the student’s official university record; please keep a copy for your records.
Eligible students who do not have documentation must submit a CARE Self Referral at U Matter, We Care.
After submission, a member of the U Matter, We Care staff will contact the student to schedule an interview.
WHAT IS COVERED
This waiver covers all tuition and fees, including lab, material, supply fees, and auxiliary fees.
*Homeless Tuition Exemptions are not retroactive for any prior semester.
